Who We are

Timothy P. Greer, a founding partner of T.P. Greer Architects LLC, leads a progressive team of ten architects, interior designers and preservationists based in Stamford, Connecticut, an hour from New York City, where about seventy percent of our projects are located. The firm has unparalleled experience in specialty retail, commercial, institutional and residential projects, providing a personal touch and a unique sensibility within a commercial structure. Also well known for creative institutional Master Planning, the firm moves comfortably between smaller, sensitive assignments and larger, more complex, multi-faceted projects.

T.P. Greer Architects is known nationally and internationally for imaginative renovations and additions to historical, often landmarked or registered structures. In New York and London, T.P. Greer Architects has choreographed many notable renovations over the last twenty-five years, including distinctive flagship stores, single-family townhouses, retail boutiques, clubs and institutional structures. In addition to the New York City Metropolitan area, the firm has completed significant residential and commercial project in California, Colorado, Florida, Long Island, Maine, Rhode Island and Washington State.

Tim Greer graduated with a B.A. in Architecture from Yale University and a Master’s Degree in Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where he was a recipient of The Graham Foundation Scholarship Thesis Award. He remains involved with both Yale and Harvard programs and the firm often hires interns from both schools. After a ten-year New York City apprenticeship period with SOM, Gwathmey Siegel and Philip Johnson / John Burgee, Tim Greer founded T.P. Greer Architects in SoHo, New York City. The expanding firm relocated to Connecticut, where Mr. Greer and his family have lived since 1994.

Mr. Greer’s work with New York New Visions, a coalition of architecture, engineering, planning and design professionals that was created after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, was instrumental in creating a solid foundation for the future of Ground Zero. He was a member of the Uses Task Force, whose purpose was to develop recommendations for the proper mix of commercial, residential, retail and institutional uses, with the goal of revitalizing the World Trade Center site and crafting a detailed, long-range planning strategy for the redevelopment of lower Manhattan.

The Coalition’s report was presented to New York City Mayor Bloomberg’s office, the New York City partnership, the Real Estate Board of New York and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation for consideration in the efforts of these agencies to establish guidelines for the construction of the Memorial to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks and for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site. The parameters established through this collaborative process formed the framework for the Master Plan that now guides the development of the World Trade Center site and the rest of lower Manhattan.

With over twenty-five years of experience in master planning, architectural design, interior design and furniture design, our firm places great value on developing and maintaining the personal relationships that are key to the successful realization of projects of any scale and type. Because of our creativity, design sense and focus on meeting and exceeding our clients’ expectations, it is not unusual for this approach to translate across disciplines; often a client will commission multiple projects from us over an extended time frame. Although atypical for most architectural firms, it is not unusual for us to design an office, primary residence and vacation house for the same client, perhaps even an addition to a school or club upon whose board the client may sit.
